Vee Design’s David Hatherly, Trish Menzies and Amanda Larsson attended the recent Parks and Leisure Australia Conference held at Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast.
David Hatherly and Amanda Larsson gave a very informative and well-received presentation on ‘How our future parks can facilitate active and healthy communities’. As a case study on how inner city areas more than ever need functional and attractive urban recreational parkland spaces, Amanda provided an engaging overview of the Lismore Park master plan that Vee has been working on with Lismore Council over the past 18 months, highlighting the challenges faced in designing a park with some significant social issues and physical limitations.
As part of the conference, Parks and Leisure Australia also held the 2016 Queensland Awards of Excellence, and Vee Design was the recipient in two major categories:
Leisure Facilities: Development category Orion Lagoon (Springfield) Vee Design and Ipswich City Council
Playspace: Major (500K +) category Keppel Kraken Yeppoon Water Play, Vee Design and Livingstone Shire Council
Both of these awards and industry recognition demonstrate well our exceptional work in these areas, and are all the more significant as they come on the back of receiving awards in the following categories in the recent Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Queensland State awards held in Brisbane:
Tourism Award of Excellence: Yeppoon Water Play, and
Parks and Open Space Landscape Architecture Award: Orion Lagoon.
Great work from Team Vee!
